Our Friday Cocktail: The Sweet and Simple

Every Friday afternoon during our weekly team meeting at SideTour, we select one cocktail to enjoy as a group. Last week, Jo developed this light and refreshing summer drink. It was perfectly balanced, a great combination of tart and sweet, and a great reminder that summer’s not quite over just yet!

The Sweet and Simple

2 oz dry gin
1 oz honey simple syrup
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
1 tsp whole peppercorns
5 basil leaves
1/2 tsp honey

Muddle honey, peppercorns and basil. Add gin, simple syrup and lemon juice. Shake with ice and strain. Serve over ice.

6 Local Beers You Should Be Drinking This Summer

  • Characteristics: Described as a unique can for sun-worshipping ale lovers, this Bavarian wheat promises clear golden brilliance. We also love the fact that it’s served in a can.
  • Alcohol Content: 5.2%
  • Some Places to Find it: Blind Pig, Craftbar, Idle Hands, Whole Foods Union Square, Spring Lounge

2. Heartland Summertime Apricot Ale

  • Characteristics: A wheat ale with a light, fruity apricot sweetness. We’re still a little confused why this brewery’s named Heartland since we’re on the East Coast, but we’re willing to overlook that since it’s pretty delicious.
  • Alcohol Content: 5.5%
  • Some Places to Find it: Heartland Brewery’s all over the city. The Seaport’s our fave.

3. Dogfish Festina Peche

The One Thing Every Start-up Should Look For in an Investor

Every Friday afternoon during our weekly team meeting at SideTour, we select one cocktail to enjoy as a group. This week, we’re bending the rules and opening a couple bottles of beer. Sent to us by our investors at Foundry Group, it was brewed and bottled by Matt Galligan and Ryan McIntyre in San Francisco.

Want to brew your own beer? We have an experience for that.

Liquidation Preference Spring Equinox Ale - Batch #1:

This fermentation sponsored by Foundry Group in Boulder, CO.

Contains: Malt, hops, yeast, condensed fog

Alcohol Content: 6-8% by volume (we’re not sure)

(Not responsible for any stupid investments made while consuming)

Our Friday Cocktail: The Mint Julep

Every Friday afternoon during our weekly team meeting at SideTour, we select one cocktail to enjoy as a group. This week, in honor of the Belmont Stakes, we went Kentucky Derby-style on our cocktail and celebrated an old Southern standby, the Mint Julep.

The Mint Julep (SideTour-style, horse-racing-inspired):

2 oz Four Roses Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey

6 Mint Sprigs

1/2 oz Simple Syrup

Shake vigorously with ice. Pour the contents into a glass and enjoy.

Our Friday Cocktail: The Kentucky Mule

Every Friday afternoon during our weekly team meeting at SideTour, we select one cocktail to enjoy as a group. This week was the Kentucky Mule, a smooth yet spicy drink inspired by the traditional Moscow Mule (which uses vodka).

Kentucky Mule (SideTour-style)
1 1/2 oz Four Roses Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey
4 oz Reed’s Ginger Beer, Jamaican Style
1/2 oz Lime Juice
Ice

Fill glass to the top with ice. Add Bourbon, Ginger Beer, then Lime Juice. Stir and enjoy.
